Toys for Tots 2013 !!

Every December at NYSL Promotions we take time to think about those that are less fortunate than we are. In an economy like the one we are in, we are reminded that this can be the hardest time of the year for families that can't provide holiday gifts for their children. That is why we dedicate much of this month to collecting toys to donate to the Toys for Tots organization.

We encourage all employees, and even those interviewing with our managers, to bring new or slightly used toys to our West Caldwell office. Our HR Manager, Erica, will then drop off the toys at a local collection center. To get more information on how you can get involved with Toys for Tots, please feel free to contact us at the office at (973) 227-6975. Happy Holidays !!!

Why We Travel!

According to Under30CEO.com, traveling might give you some essential skills and experiences needed to become a successful business owner!

Here at NYSL Promotions, we believe that too! That is why every November we send our employees on an all inclusive, paid (!!!!) R&R vacation. We operate with a work hard, play harder attitude and what better way to reward our hard working, dedicated staff than with a trip?!

In November of 2011 and 2012, NYSL spent 4 nights, 5 days at the beautiful Conquistador Resort in Puerto Rico (pictured above). This year, we will be spending the same amount of time at the Hilton Rose Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica!!

Check back in with us next week to see pictures taken by our staff while on their trip! Also, feel free to submit your resume to our firm if you feel that you deserve to vacation with the rest of us after working hard all year!

Want to read more about how traveling with NYSL can make YOU a better business owner? Check out the Under30CEO post below!

Office Update! One Year After Hurricane Sandy!!

In October of 2012 our office building, just like thousands of others, was impacted by Hurricane Sandy. We couldn't access our office for about 2 weeks, causing us to let many of our clients down. Within the last year, many of our reps in our New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania offices donated their time and money to help with Sandy Relief.

This past weekend, NYSL was able to put the finishing touches in our West Caldwell, NJ office by giving it a much needed paint job! We've grown both individually and as an office in the last year and would love to be able to share our growth with you! We're currently looking to fill positions in both our West Caldwell, NJ and Woburn, MA offices. If you'd like the opportunity to sit down with our managers to discuss a potential career within our firm, please give us a call or submit your resume through our new and improved website: www.NYSLPromotions.com !!!

How to Prepare for an Interview- The Series

Part Two- What to Say!

We understand that it's incredibly nerve racking to go on an interview. Whether a first timer, or a seasoned vet, interviewing with a new company is sure to cause some level of anxiety. Here is an inside look into some of the questions asked by NYSL Promotions' CEO, Joseph Mannino, along with tips and tricks on how to nail that preliminary meeting!

1. "What was your last job like?"
In this question, Joseph is looking for experience. He wants to know what you've done in the past that will prove to him that you will be an asset to our firm. Talk about relevant work that you've done in the past, whether professionally or personally, that will allow you to succeed within our company. Ultimate goal: Prove Your Worth!

2. "Why did you leave, or why are you looking to leave, your last job?"
Here, Joseph is looking to see if you will fit well within our office environment. Here at NYSL, we are a fast-paced, energetic group of individuals. This type of environment is not for everybody! We're not looking to waste our time, or yours, by pursuing other steps of the interview process if you won't be a great fit from the start. Whether you left your last position on a good note or bad, be upfront and honest from the start. Highlight positive things that came, or will come, from your departure of the company.

3. "First thing that comes to mind when I mention marketing?"
Joseph wants to know how much information you know about our company. Marketing can mean a NUMBER of different things, depending on who you ask. Have you checked out our website and other social media sites before coming to the interview? What do you know about how WE market our clients here at NYSL? If you include your knowledge about our company in your preliminary conversation with Joe, you'll separate yourself from the rest of the competition.

4. "Would you feel comfortable teaching and training others?"
Ultimately, Joseph is looking for his next manager. We are doing incredible things for our current clients and they are always asking us to expand our territory. We recently promoted Hernan Arbaiza and Kerlande Philippe from our North Jersey office into North and South Boston, respectively. Joseph wants to know if you would be able to teach and train others what you learned in the Entry Level position, to ultimately help the company expand even further. No matter what department you start off in at NYSL Promotions, we are always looking for people who are interested in growing with the company. The only way we can grow, is if you can help us teach and train new recruits.

5. "How do you define success?"
Be honest, but don't sound full of yourself!! Bring up other things that people have previously said about your greatest strong points and talents. Here, Joseph is looking to see if NYSL is going to be able to provide you with your definition of success. If, ultimately, your goals and our goals don't match up, we want to realize right off the bat whether a partnership is beneficial for both you and our company.

In conclusion, no matter what company you are interviewing with within your dream field, keep these five questions in mind. First impressions are everything! Sound confident, look sharp and be knowledgable about the company you are interviewing with. How to Prepare for an Interview- The Series

Part One- What to Wear!

First impressions are everything! Even the color choices you make can potentially separate you from the competition. A good rule of thumb: Everything they see CAN and WILL be held against you!

According to Hired My Way, the way we dress, specifically the colors we choose, can subconsciously effect people's "emotional impressions and even physical responses." One tip for choosing what to wear is to ask what the dress environment is like when you get called in for the interview. Keep in mind: It's ALWAYS bad to be underdressed but can also be the same for being overdressed.

Finishing touches:
Once the outfit has been chosen, you want to make sure that you look completed and polished. This includes (mostly for the ladies) hair and nails! You never want to give up your own personal style for anyone, but always keep in mind the type of position you're applying for.

Below, we have included images to refer back to and the link to Hired My Way's blog that can better aid you in your color choices for the big day!

Ultimately, dress for the job you WANT! Prepare a little beforehand and be confident in what you choose! If you feel like you look great, it'll show!

Remember to check back in a few weeks for Part Two of the "How to Prepare for an Interview- The Series": What to Say!
